- V is for Vengeance
Summary
A spiderweb of dangerous relationships is at the heart of this daring new novel from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author.
Kinsey on Kinsey: I know there are people who believe you should forgive and forget. For the record, I'd like to say I'm a big fan of forgiveness as long as I'm given the opportunity to get even first."
-from V is for Vengeance
A woman with a murky past who kills herself-or was it murder? A dying old man cared for by the son he pummeled mercilessly. A lovely woman whose life is about to splinter into a thousand fragments. A professional shoplifting ring racking up millions in stolen goods. A brutal and unscrupulous gangster. A wandering husband, rich and powerful. A spoiled kid awash in gambling debt thinking he can beat the system. A lonely widower mourning the death of his lover, desperate for answers that may be worse than the pain of his loss. An elegant but ruthless businessman whose dealings are definitely outside the law: the spider at the center of the web.
And Kinsey Millhone, whose thirty-eighth-birthday gift is a punch in the face that leaves her with two black eyes and a busted nose.
V: Victim. Violence. Vengeance.

I fell in love with this series last year (even though it's been around for awhile) and was so excited that "V" finally came out. I particularly like that it Grafton has not brought Kinsey into the 21st century yet--the series started in the 80's and it's still there. Based on the premise ...

This was one of the best of the Kinsey Millhone books that I have read yet. Fast paced action, twist, turns and oodles of interesting side plots. If you could only pick one of them to read, this would be a good one to start with. Loved it! (Posted on 12/17/11)

I've read all of the Sue Grafton books. [I treat myself to the hardback copy of each when it comes out.]

This one is good -- like all the others. Grafton's style is SO absorbing: you want everyone to go away and leave you alone until you finish. ["KIds, go cook your own dinner."...

I haved loved these books having started all those years ago with "A". They all have a similar cadence, but I have come to enjoy all the main characters! (Posted on 12/11/11)

Sometimes I wonder if my love of each of the Kinsey Millhone books is because they are great books or because I've missed the characters so much that my excitement to visit with them again makes me automatically think highly of them. Either way, I love this series. Without a doubt one of my favorite...

The long awaited next installment of the Kinsey Millhone series was published this fall. I, of course, was quick to obtain this volume as I have enjoyed the previous 21 books that make up the “Alphabet Series†Ms. Grafton began with A is for Alibi. Most of these books are surprisingly fres...

In the beginning, we meet a gambler whose fate is sealed when he fails to pay back some loan sharks.

Next, we see Kinsey Millhone again, talking about how, on her 38th birthday, she met up with a punch in the face and a broken nose. Over the next spell-binding pages of this captivating st...

V is for Very Good! Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone is getting better and more sophisticated with each book. She states that her books are a long time in the making, and it shows. I find her books complex and the plots are intricate. The characters, both the returning, and non-returning, are very wel...

Kinsey Millhone just gets better with age. In V is for Vengeance, she turns thirty-eight. The year is 1988 and Kinsey is in her prime as a private detective. She is tough and smart, a woman of her word who lives to see justice done. Even if it is sometimes a rough kind of justice.

Goodreads Review, Review by Jerry
No doubt many readers of “V†have dutifully read the entire 22-book set, including ourselves. At this point, we almost consider protagonist Kinsey Millhone an old friend, and enjoy her late-30’s, single-woman, generally laid-back approach to life. She is indeed a private eye, but readily admits th...
